Motorola Showcases New Flexible Phone Concept at Lenovo’s Tech World 2023 Expo

Motorola, a subsidiary of Lenovo, recently unveiled its latest concept for a flexible smartphone at the Tech World 2023 expo. The device is designed to be versatile and can be wrapped around the wrist, arched on a table, or stood on its own base.

This is not the first time that Lenovo has explored the idea of a bendy smartphone. In 2016, a similar concept was demonstrated at the Tech World Keynote, but it never made it past the prototype stage. However, it seems that the idea of a wearable smartphone is still being worked on, as evidenced by the updated concept showcased at this year’s expo.

While detailed specifications are limited, the new concept features a flexible 6.9-inch pOLED display with FHD+ resolution. Instead of a rigid housing, the device has multiple hinges that allow it to be bent and used in various positions and modes.

In terms of functionality, the phone offers a full Android experience. When in self-standing mode, it displays content on a compact 4.6-inch screen. It can also be folded into a tent mode or worn on the wrist, similar to the Ritmo Mundo Reflex watch. In this mode, users can access a smaller external display, similar to the one found on the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, allowing them to stay connected while on the go.

Motorola is still exploring the possibilities of this wearable smartphone concept. However, a working prototype was showcased at the expo by Lexi Valasek from the company’s Innovation Research team. In addition to the flexible phone, she also demonstrated an AI-powered display wallpaper development aimed at the fashion-conscious consumer.

While it remains to be seen if this latest concept will make it to the market, Motorola’s ongoing exploration of flexible smartphone technology shows the company’s commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in terms of mobile device design. As the demand for more versatile and functional smartphones continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how Motorola and other companies in the industry respond with new and exciting developments.
