by Swedish audio startup, Transparent, has recently released its latest innovation, the Transparent Turntable. The company, known for its see-through vibe, aims to provide consumers with ‘the complete listening experience’ through this new product. Previously relying on Kickstarter for funding, the Transparent Turntable can now be purchased directly from the company’s webshop, as well as stores like MoMA and Bloomingdales.
The development of the Turntable took three years and was driven by the demand from the community of music lovers. It boasts an attractive room-neutral minimalistic design, constructed using aluminum and tempered glass. Even the dust cover, equipped with dampened hinges, is made from glass.
The Turntable features a belt-drive system that allows the aluminum platter to spin at both 33 and 45 rpm, with less than one percent variance in speed. Additionally, it includes an auto-stop feature to limit stylus wear. Users will need to manually lift and drop the anti-skating aluminum tonearm at the start and end of play. The vinyl spinner comes with an Ortofon 5e moving-magnet cartridge, which is built around an elliptical diamond stylus.
To provide a seamless audio experience, the system comes with its own phono pre-amp for direct cabling to powered speakers or a hi-fi system. It also supports Bluetooth 5.0, enabling wireless connectivity to Bluetooth speakers, including Transparent’s own stylish see-through and solid models.
In an effort to promote sustainability and reduce e-waste, the Transparent Turntable boasts a modular architecture that allows for easy disassembly and component replacement, thus extending its operational lifespan.
The Transparent Turntable is currently available for purchase at a price of US$1,300. This places it in a similar pricing range as Pro-Ject’s T2 W, but makes it less expensive than Denon’s flagship DP-3000NE. Shipping is expected to commence from mid-November.
